A large envelope is displayed on a stand placed on the table.
A spectator is invited to assist the performer.
She is handed a small metal plate containing 3 drilled holes. Each hole is marked with a different coloured sticker.
The spectator is also given 3 sets of bolts and nuts.
She is instructed to freely choose any 2 sets of bolts and nuts and screw them into any 2 of the 3 coloured holes on the metal plate.
The choice is completely free.
For example, the spectator may decide to place the bolts and nuts into the red and yellow holes, leaving the green hole empty.
The performer then directs attention to the large envelope displayed on the stand.
From the envelope, he removes a large metal plate.
This larger plate also contains 3 colour-labelled holes.
Remarkably, the red and yellow holes already contain bolts and nuts, while the green hole remains empty.
It is an exact duplicate of the arrangement chosen moments earlier by the spectator.
To further strengthen the impossibility, the performer slowly unscrews the bolts and nuts from the larger metal plate, showing that it genuinely takes time to screw and unscrew them.
