UNHANDED

“Unhanded” is not a trick per se, but a tool, or a control, to be used with a deck of playing cards.

What “Unhanded” allows you to do is to have a spectator freely selects any card, loses it back into the deck and then shuffles the deck. The selected card is obviously lost in the deck. The deck is placed inside its case. When the cards are taken out of the case, you the performer have a secret control of the selected card.

You receive the special card case and a gimmicked Joker card, made using the red bicycle rider back design. You will need to supply your own deck of red bicycle rider back design cards.

You receive a link to 2 video tutorials. Both videos feature Javier Fuenmayer from Murphys Magic.

One of the videos has Javier teaches you how to dismantle the provided card case as well as the gimmicked Joker and use the gimmick accessories to reconstruct your own gimmicked card case and Joker using playing cards of your own deck. This is remarkably easy to do and this video is only 7 minutes long.

The main video runs for over 2 hours, 2 hours and 18 minutes, to be exact. Here, Javier teaches you a myraid of card routines and tricks that you can do using “Unhanded”. Routines taught include a “Do As I Do” effect using 2 different decks, a “Card At Any Number”, and an interesting “Paper Bag” effect where a freely chosen card, lost in the deck and put inside a paper bag and further mixes around, is able to isolate itself from the rest of the cards and magically relocate itself inside the card case which is also placed inside the paper bag together with the cards.

Other effects taught include “Jokers Are Wild” where the Joker, isolated from the deck and placed inside your pocket, later turns out to be the chosen card. In “Sandwich”, a signed card lost in the deck mysteriously found itself sandwiched between 2 Jokers taken out from the performer’s pocket. In “Card Penetration”, the chosen card, lost in a deck of cards, penetrates an empty card case. In “Travellers”, 10 cards are isolated and place inside the card case. Another 10 cards are counted and gathered into a packet on the table. 2 cards magically travel out of the case and join the packet of 10 cards on the table.

Javier mentions an interesting principle from Lloyd Barnes. “Unhanded” can be used to force 2 cards. Javier closes by teaching some false cuts and shuffles, and different ways to have a card selected.

A worthwhile investment considering the number of effects you can do using “Unhanded”. (Rated 4.5/5 stars)
