PULP FICTION by Jay Sankey

This is a novel and visual revelation of a selected card.

A deck of cards is shown to have holes of different shapes and sizes cut through each card.  The deck must have been damaged at the factory, explained the performer.  A card is chosen and then returned to a packet of cards.  The packet of cards is given a single shake and magically, all the cut-outs in the cards align themselves to form the value and suit of the chosen card!  The revelation is most visual!  The deck of cards with holes provides novelty to the effect.  The effect can be performed with almost no sleight-of-hand, the deck can be examined, and it can be reset instantly, and repeated with a different selection.

You are supplied with the special deck of cards, a gimmicked card, and the instructional DVD.  As with all Jay Sankey effects, all nuances of the effects are covered, such as variations in performances (including a stand-up version), variations in revelations of the chosen card (including a third selection), and verbal gags that can be used for the hole deck.  The downside to this deck is that only limited card revelations are possible with this deck.  One would expect that a deck with holes in every card can be made to reveal any one of the 52 cards.

This disadvantage is offset by 2 bonus tricks taught by Jay Sankey in the DVD.  Although none of them uses the special deck, the 2 tricks involve cut-outs in playing cards.

The first effect is entitled “Punched Transpo” and is a kind of 2-card monte.  A Two of Diamond card is clearly shown to have its abbreviated identity cut-out in the card.  A Jack of Hearts card is similarly shown to have its abbreviated identity cut-out in it.  The 2 cards are turned face down, and like in the popular 2-card monte game, the 2 cards are finally transposed in spite of their individual cut-outs!

“Blade Runner” is the second bonus effect and is a card stab with a difference.  A card is chosen and then lost back in the deck.  7 cards are freely chosen by the spectator and this packet of cards is wrapped with a tissue paper.  A long sharp nail is shown and pierced through the centre of this wrapped packet of cards.  With a sharp upward trust, the nail tears through 6 cards, but remains impaled in one card – it is the selected card!

Three visual card effects for those who like to add novelty in their card tricks.  (3.5/5 stars rating).
