iCONTACT by Chris Congreave

This is an easy to do card trick that has a great impact on the spectators.Just watch the video trailer for the reactions of the audience when Richard Beller performs iContact.

In effect, two cards are selected from a deck of cards.  One is physically chosen from the deck while the other card is merely thought of by a second spectator.  The performer takes out the first spectator’s card and shows that he already knows this card would be chosen.  He then turns over this card and on the back is written the name of the second thought-of card!

You receive a gimmicked deck together with an instructional DVD.  You need to complete the gaffing of the deck of cards by writing on the backs of some cards.  You also need to provide an additional card yourself.  The suit of this card depends on the cards that come with your gimmicked deck.  This should be of no problem to magicians because the deck uses the popular bicycle cards.  However, for the price you pay, this card should come complete with the deck.  The deck supplied need not come with the writings on the backs of the cards because most performers may want the predictions to be written in their own hand writing.

The DVD is well produced.  You get to know a little of the history of this effect, and how to set up and complete the gimmicked deck.  Chris Congreave, with Gary Jones, then discuss various endings.  For example, the first chosen card can be produced from other locations instead of merely bringing it out from the deck.  Possible locations are from the card case, wallet or pocket.  The written prediction does not have to be the name of a second playing card.  It can be the name of the spectator or even his personal belonging.

There is a bonus effect by Gary Jones called “Touched”.  The performer picks a card himself from the deck and writes a prediction on its face.  This is placed in his pocket.  A second spectator names any other card.  When the performer removes his card from his pocket, it has the name of the second spectator’s card written on its face!  This does not use the gimmicked deck that comes with the package, but it shares the same concept.  You need to construct this special deck from cards that you can obtain from magic dealers.  (4.5 stars rating)
