5 magicians from IBM Ring 115 were invited back to entertain residents of Pacific Healthcare Nursing Home at Redhill in the afternoon of 18 March 2021. The first time we entertained them was in December last year.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the 5 of us were separated into 2 groups to perform at 2 different floors. Ng Ek Hwang and Carson Goh, together with their staff named Jacqueline who acted as our MC cum magician assistant, entertained the residents at level 1. On level 3, the team made up of Henry Tio, Benwinner Kam and Siew Kim Siang performed together with their staff Tiffany Neo who acted as our MC cum magician assistant. We had to wear masks throughout our performances.
Most of the residents were in wheelchairs. We performed individual acts. The 2 MCs from the Nursing Home not only acted as our assistants, they were instrumental in encouraging the audience members to actively participate in our performances. The sight of the aged residents in their wheelchairs laughing and clapping their hands was such a joyful one to behold.
We used large and colourful magic props. We included many story-telling magic – stories with messages that brought them hope in this world full of struggles and challenges.
We dressed in colourful costumes depicting various magical characters. This added to the fun and pageantry of the atmosphere. We were pleased that our presence and performances brought much cheer to the residents of this nursing home especially during this time of the pandemic.
