GIANT ROBOT

Giant Robot is a fun take on the 10-car poker deal principle, not so much on the Jonah Card principle, as there is a difference between the two.  Here is what happens:

The performer displays 10 cards, each card depicting a different kind of machine.  The 10 machines shown are: submarine, bicycle, car, helicopter, truck, excavator, tank, rocket, space-ship and robot.

The performer engages a spectator to play a little game with him.  The cards are shuffled and spread face downwards in a row on the table.  Each person, in turn, takes a card from either end of the spread.  In-between the selections, the packet of cards can be cut by the spectator.  At the end of the selections, each person has 5 cards.  When the cards are turned over face up, whoever has the robot wins, reads a folded piece of paper.

At the end of the game, the spectator gets the robot card.  However, the performer uses his 5 different machine cards to “build” a giant robot very similar to the robot that the spectator has.  When the folded piece of paper is opened up, it says “The robot wins … unless you have the Giant Robot!”  This is a beautiful twist in the end!

You receive 10 very nicely designed machine cards, the folded prediction or instructions, and a link to a video tutorial conducted by Josh Burch himself.

For those of you who know about the 10-card poker deal or the Jonah card principle, the cards are marked on their backs.  The markings are subtley done.

Josh teaches you a routine where you do not need to read the markings on the backs of the cards.  In this case, the spectator gets to build the giant robot.

The cards are beautifully designed, the topic of machines and robot is current, and the ending will catch everyone by surprise and will put a smile on the audience’s faces.  It is also one of the most reasonably priced effect.  (Rated 5/5 stars)
