CARD-TOON REMASTERED (JUMBO) by Dan Harlan

When Dan Harlan first released his “Card-Toon” deck, it became an instant hit.

The effect is that there are drawings on the backs of a red back deck of playing cards. The drawings show a stickman performing magic with a stage setting. The entire backs of the cards in the deck act like a flip-book movie. When you flip the backs of the cards, the stickman becomes animated. He takes off his hat, and from his hat he draws out a playing card. When he turns over the playing card, it is the very card selected by a spectator.

This spawned a couple of different versions, with the stickman magician performing different effects to reveal the identity of a chosen card.

Quite recently, Dan Harlan came out with a remastered card-Toon deck. This took after his very first Card-Toon deck design with a main difference. The stickman magician first produces a rabbit from his hat, and then this rabbit transforms into the spectator’s chosen card. The drawings are also redone to make it easier to see.

And now, Dan Harlan has reproduced his Card-Toon remastered deck in jumbo size. Everything thing else is the same as for the poker- sized version. The handling changes a little because handling a jumbo sized deck is slightly different from handling a poker-sized deck of cards. The effect is now more visual and can be performed for a larger group of spectators.

The actual effect is as follows. A jumbo sized deck of playing cards is shown to have line drawings on the backs of every card. The drawing is of a stickman performing magic on a stage. When the backs of the entire deck of cards is flipped, the stickman becomes animated.

First, a spectator names any card she wishes. There is no force. The cards in the deck is arranged in new deck order, and it is very easy for the performer to look for the spectator’s named card. Her chosen card is taken out and placed face up on the table.

The performer flips the backs of the cards and the stickman becomes animated like a flip-book movie. He takes off his hat, reaches inside his hat and pulls out a rabbit.

The rabbit then turns into a large playing card. Finally, the card is turned face outwards and it has the identity of the spectator’s selected card. The effect works for any card named by a spectator.

You received the specially printed jumbo deck inside a nice paper casing. You also get a link to a 19 minutes video tutorial featuring Dan Harlon. He shows you how to perform the effect and gives you some tips on handling jumbo cards.

The effect is visual and it is truly fun to watch a stickman being animated to reveal your chosen card. This trick will appeal to both adults and children. (Rated 5/5 stars)
