This is a book test. But there is nothing in this book that has reference to the “Back To The Future” movie, as suggested by the promotion poster of this effect.
It is a pocket-sized book of some 200 pages that features a “Rough Guide to Las Vegas, Nevada”. This comes with a postcard of Las Vegas.
In effect, the performer displays the “Guide Book to Las Vegas” to a spectator. He shows that every page is different and contains different first word, different longest word and sometimes references to other locations or places.
A spectator takes the Las Vegas postcard and inserts it anywhere in the book. Both the performer and the spectator notes the first word on that page, the longest word in the first paragraph of that page, and the name of a location. Another spectator names a number between “1” and “10”. Let us assume it is “7”. Both the performer and the spectator count down to the 7th line and note the 7th word in that line.
A prediction envelope is on the table all the time. It is opened and the prediction states the exact 4 words as noted by both the performer and the spectator!
You receive both the book and 3 duplicates of the postcard. All the items are with high quality printing. You are also given a link to several video downloads, no password is necessary.
The book is spiral bound. It can be opened out flat and also the “unwanted” portion of the book folded back flat against the portion that contains the selected page.
The book is cleverly gimmicked in several ways. It enables you to go through the book with a spectator to show that each page is different; yet it forces one of 2 paragraphs and 2 sets of 4 different words.
The innocent looking Las Vegas postcard is specially designed for you to perform a bonus effect involving predictions of playing cards and gambling.
The 1-hour video featuring a zoom discussion between Steve Gore and Marc Spelmann is particularly interesting. Marc gives many practical ideas and different ways of presenting the book test – he himself has collected almost all the book tests that are or were available in the market. There are videos showing the performance and explanations of the bonus postcard effect. There is a 20-minutes video on Steve Gore’s performance in The Magic Castle which contains his prformances on both the book test and the Las Vegas postcard.
This is a cunningly designed book test with a bonus postcard effect. (Rated 4.5/5 stars)
