BOARDING PASS

This is an unusual magic effect involving the spectator’s mobile phone.  It is unusual because it uses 3 airplane boarding passes.  Currently, airlines no longer use any physical boarding passes.  However, everybody has seen and knows about boarding passes.

Here is the effect.  The performer brings out 3 boarding passes from 3 different airlines.  He has travelled widely and used many different airlines.  Somehow, he has managed to collect these boarding passes.

A spectator is asked to name any city in the world if she were to travel to.  Let us say, she chooses Cairo.  The performer uses his mobile phone to check Google for details of this city.  The spectator is also asked to select one of these 3 boarding passes.  Let us say she selects the boarding pass from American Airlines.

She takes out her mobile phone and scan the QR code on one of the other 2 boarding passes.  This is supposed to take her to the destination city of this airline.  Let us say she scans the QR code on the Qatar boarding pass.  This takes her to the Google search for the city of Tokyo.

Next, she scans the QR code on the Iberia Airlines boarding pass.  This opens up the Google for the city of Berlin.  Now she uses her mobile phone to scan the QR code on her selected boaring pass: that of American Airlines.  It opens up on the city of Cairo!

A spectator can name any city in the world, there are no choice restrictions.  The spectator scans the QR code using her mobile phone alone.  A straight-forward and powerful mental effect using the mobile phone of the spectator.

You receive the 3 boarding passes and a link to a 27 minutes tutorial video.  There are no apps to download onto your mobile phone.  This works for both apple and endroid operating system.

You have to do a one-time set up on your mobile phone.  This is very easy to do and very fast.  There are several versions available:

  • The Helper Input – this uses your personal helper without knowledge of the audience.
  • The Google Search – you do the Google search yourself under the pretense of finding details of the spectator’s chosen city.
  • The Stealth Phrase – you type a typical phrase in the Google such as “How many cities are there in the world?” This will help you set up for the city chosen by the spectator.
  • The Single Revelation – this uses only one of the boarding passes and allows you to integrate “Boarding Pass” with other effects.
