With a title such as “World’s Second Best Card Trick”, you can expect this to be a comedy card trick. It is – it is almost ridiculously silly, but there is a magical twist at the end.
In effect, the performer brings out a jumbo deck of playing cards. This brings out laughter from the audience as they have never seen such a deck before.
The performer says that it is difficult to handle playing cards of this large size. He shows that each card is different and requests a spectator to select one card. He turns away while the spectator looks at her selected card and shows it around. Let us assume the spectator selects the seven of spades.
When the performer turns around again, he has with him a poker-sized deck of playing cards. He asks the spectator to put her selected card back into the deck. It is really funny to see the spectator inserting her large card into the poker-sized deck of cards. Her card sticks out from the deck like a sore thumb.
Oblivious to this, the performer proceeds to shuffle the cards, with much difficulty, of course. He spreads the cards faces towards him, searching for the spectator’s card. Finally, he brings out one card and names it as the King of clubs. The spectator says it is not her selected card. The performer attempts a second time – he searches the cards and brings out another card and names it as the eight of hearts. Again the spectator denies that it is her selected card.
The performer says third time is lucky. Now he gets to see the jumbo card and brings it out with the back facing the audience. He announces that the selected card is the nine of diamonds and turns it around to show that it is the nine of diamonds. The spectator and the audience are quick to point out that it is not the selected card.
Feeling frustrated, the performer requests for the identity of her selected card. When told it is the seven of spades, the performer spreads the poker-sized deck of cards face upwards. It is seen that every card in the deck is the seven of spades. The performer was disappointed that he could not locate the seven of spades even though he was given 51 chances! The entire act is quite hilarious!
You receive the jumbo deck, the poker-sized one-way forcing deck, and a jumbo double-back card. All the cards supplied are of bicycle back design. You also receive a link and a QR code to 2 sets of videos. Unfortunately, the 2 videos are of performance only – 2 different performances of the same effect by different magician for different audiences. There are no explanations. Veteran performers will know how to work out this trick, given the one-way forcing deck and the jumbo double-back card. Depending on the method you use, you may not need the use of the jumbo double-back card.
The audience has never seen a large size deck of playing cards and a deck consisting of all the same card. They appear to be a novelty to the audience and cause them to smile. The entire routine is quite funny to watch, but there is a satisfying “magical” climax to the silliness.
If this type of comedy suits you, this is a worth-while investment. (Rated 4.5/5 starts)
